A day in Life

written at age 19

So young, innocent and naive

So unwilling to deceive

Longing for a father to abound

Longed for, until one came around

Waiting for the man to come home

Waiting for him all alone

Feeling emptiness trembling in her stomach

she was afraid

Feeling the terror

wondering what law she had not obeyed

Taking refuge in a closet trying to hide herself away

Praying he wouldn't notice until another day

As he entered the bedroom all she could see was his shoes on the floor

He hadn't noticed yet her blanket covered her hiding behind the closet door

Her heart was beating so fast she could feel it in her ear

She was so terrified, she thought he would hear

He stood so long not saying a word that she would pray

Maybe it was this day, she had gotten away

Her prayer went unanswered, as she heard him say

Where is that little girl hiding today?

Why would she need to hide somewhere, is she trying to get away?

She must be hiding because she's done something bad today

Come out little girl your daddy won't hurt you

Come out right now or i'll come get you

She quickly pulled herself up from the floor

and crept out from behind the closet door

Today he would take her in his mighty arms and spin her around

Today was not a good day, she had been found

He asks, “Today have you lied?”

“No, no daddy!” she would cry

Well if you haven't lied

Why is it you cry?

You must have done something very bad

Is that why your terrified?

He took a deep breath and smiled

He knew he had time for the game, time to quiz her awhile

Why is it that you lie?

Don't you know you deserve to die?

Her empty stomach began to tremble

Her mouth began to dry

She knew what would happen now

As she gave up she had that vacant dazed look in her eye
